Why the name Rhizome?
As usual, our inspiration comes from the plant world! A rhizome is an important part of many plants: it’s a continuously growing, horizontal stem that can grow and support new roots and shoots underground. It has no real hierarchical structure, but plays the critical role of storing nutrients. If a rhizome is separated, each piece may be able to give rise to a new plant.
Plants you may recognize that have rhizomes include poplars, bamboos, ginger, turmeric, lotus, and many types of ferns.
